ABOUT
JENNIFER VARELA
I have nearly 30 years of experience helping people navigate difficult and traumatic issues. I understand trauma, loss, grief, anxiety, depression, ADHD and PTSD. I understand the crushing weight of hopelessness and accompanying thoughts that things will never be better or different.
In my own life, I've learned to live, function, and thrive with ADHD (which I consider to be a super-power). I believe in sustainable self care and part of mine is practicing yoga, meditation, and mindfulness. I've been married for over 30 years and have two grown children. I am an animal lover and spoil our pets whenever possible. My family and I have experienced the heart-breaking decision of choosing euthanasia for our beloved 17-year old dog. That experience inspired me to complete a pet loss training course: Animal Related Bereavement from the Veterinary Social Work program at the University of Tennessee.
I have extensive experience as a program director and have successfully written and managed many grants, designed and managed social service programs, and hired and managed staff. I have taught courses at the University of Houston Graduate College of Social Work, served many years as a social work graduate student field supervisor, and have provided clinical social work supervision for several years.

HOW WE CAN WORK TOGETHER?
Do not wait for leaders; do it alone, person to person.”

WHAT MY CLIENTS SAY
I told Jennifer things I'd never told anyone else. I always felt ashamed, but Jennifer made me feel safe and it felt good to say those things.
OMAR
The first time I had a session with her, I was scared and guarded. Now, I just freely talk. Sometimes it is hard, but it helps me so much.
LAURA
She told me that I deserve to be happy and no one ever told me that before.
IMANI
I feel like I can have a session and just leave all the bad stuff there.
